General Information
Description of Line 3 of the Paris Metro:
- Inaugurated on October 19, 1904.
- Colour: Olive green.
- Entirely underground. The former Gambetta - Porte des Lilas branch was separated on 27 March 1971 and is now operated as line 3 bis.
- Line 3 has 25 stations; line 3 bis has 4.
- Current length: 11.665 km (about 7.2 miles). Line 3 bis is 1.3 km (0.8 miles).
Historical and Current Curiosities
Interesting facts about Line 3 of the Paris Metro:
- Line 3 is one of the early Paris Metro lines, opened in 1904.
- On 27 March 1971, the former Gambetta - Porte des Lilas branch was separated and became line 3 bis.
- Gambetta station still shows traces of the network changes linked to the creation of line 3 bis.
- Arts et Métiers (interchange between lines 3 and 11) is famous for its retro-futuristic copper decor inspired by Jules Verne.
- Bourse station is on Place de la Bourse, near the Palais Brongniart (former Paris Stock Exchange).
